Combining massage and chiropractic treatment?
I am often asked for “my receipt” in chiropractic treatment. My opinion: like any profession, massage therapies, there are some incredible professionals who really provide some relief, many who would not describe as ‘ stellar ‘, and some that are grossly overly aggressive and destructive.
There are some cases that require completely chiropractic treatment. So, assuming you have an heavy chiro, here is my hard and fast rule: If you are going to take care, chiropractic, should receive massage.
Why? There is a very simple answer: muscles move bones (this is what allows us to move). So, if you personalize bones without addressing the forces that leave in the first place, then these forces will simply detach them again. And, depending on the aggressiveness of your chiropractic treatment and level of intensity in your musculature, you can maintain a bit of soft tissue damage in the process.
But … your partner with a number of chiropractic treatment, therapeutic massage, and you have perfect conditions for a stellar adjustment will hurt less and hold better. This leads to another common question: what first-chiropractic or massage? My answer: massage, for all these reasons. Massage is a great primer for chiro. I have plenty of massage and inflamed tissue urban post-adjustment. Had reversed the order of operations, the client will be more comfortable for both, and the results would have been better.
As always, by selecting a therapist with a narrow understanding of injury treatment and anatomy is vital to get the best results. Proper evaluation of the situation and specific targeting of the musculature is the key to providing assistance to any syndrome pain or injury, whether or not you opt to partner with care chiropractic massage therapy
